Mastercam Design

Mastercam Design is Mastercam's CAD foundation — wireframe, surface and solid modelling used to create or prepare geometry ahead of CAM programming in any Mastercam module.

Overview

What Mastercam Design does

Design provides the geometry-creation and editing tools used across Mastercam — wireframe curves, surfaces and solid modelling — plus the ability to import geometry from other CAD systems and prepare it for machining. Every other module (Mill, Lathe, Multiaxis, Mill-Turn, Wire, Router) relies on Design's CAD foundation, either bundled directly or included as a base license.

Capabilities

Key capabilities

Wireframe modelling

Curves, lines and construction geometry.

Surface modelling

Free-form surface creation and editing for complex shapes.

Solid modelling

Parametric-style solid construction and editing.

File import/translation

Bring in geometry from common CAD formats for machining.

CAD-to-CAM handoff

Prepared geometry feeds directly into toolpath chaining.

Who uses it

Typical users

CAM programmers

Cleaning up or preparing imported geometry before programming.

Tool & die designers

Building mold/die geometry directly in Mastercam.

Students & new users

Learning core CAD concepts before moving into CAM.
